A Few More Colors
Vaguely I remember from somewhere in my past.
It might have been another lifetime. It all rolls by so fast.
This one has been a rainbow. My soul’s been bought and sold.
I recall a little pain although I found no pot of gold.
Give me just a Few More Colors, I’m gone.
One or two more colors, I’ll be gone.
On the canvas that I’m painting is a portrait of my time,
Where I’ve been and what I’ve done and each new day adds a line.
A figure here, a shadow there, just a few days in the sun,
Now my pallet’s almost empty. The picture’s almost done.
- Chorus -
I’ve painted the golden wheat fields wavin’ in a summer breeze,
Ridin’ my pony in the cornfields, chasin’ blackbirds through the trees.
A young boy runnin’ down the road in the rain under a big mid-western sky.
Got a feelin’ I’ll see that road again, be one day before I die.
- Chorus -
I packed my bags for travelin’ and I moved westward with the sun.
I was always tired and hungry. Seemed my work was never done,
Just a few more honest dollars as the sweat pours from my brow.
Got a feelin’ I’m bound for glory. I believe the train is leavin’ now.
- Chorus -
I’ve traveled all around this world. I’ve climbed up into thin air.
I’ve journeyed deep inside my mind to find what’s locked in there.
I’ve seen starships burnin’ off the shoulder of Orion. I watched kingdoms rise and fall.
Now it’s time to let my dreams run free, to prepare to be a part of it all.
- Chorus -
Yeah, Vaguely I remember from somewhere in my past.
It might have been another lifetime. It all rolls by so fast.
This one has been a rainbow. My soul’s been bought and sold.
I recall a little pain although I found no pot of gold.
Give me just a Few More Colors, I’m gone.
One or two more colors, I’ll be gone.
A Few More Colors, I’m gone.

NOTES: I wrote this song for my father when he was terminally ill but he never heard it. I apparently forgot to sing the last verse when we recorded it.
