Sittin' In This Lounge Tonight

I’m just Sittin’ In This Lounge Tonight

‘Cause I got nothin’ better that I can do.

I try to keep it on the quiet side

‘Cause I don’t wanna bother you.

An’ I don’t really care whose clothes you’re wearin’

Or who bought you that diamond ring

Or the real color of your golden hair

But I’d like to know what makes you sing.

I don’t really want to be your man

An’ I don’t want you in the band.

I could always use another fan

But I don’t need no one-night stand.

Yeah, I’m just Sittin’ In This Lounge Tonight

‘Cause I got nothin’ better that I can do.

I try to keep it on the quiet side

‘Cause I don’t wanna bother you.

I don’t care what you been drinkin’ now.

If it helps you out I’ll buy you one.

I’m not here to keep your soul from sinkin’ down.

It’s not my job to help you find the sun.

It makes me sad to see you feelin’ down.

If I could help you out, you know I would.

But I’m not here to turn your life around.

I wouldn’t do that if I could.

Hey, I’m just Sittin’ In This Lounge Tonight

‘Cause I got nothin’ better I can do.

I try to keep it on the quiet side

‘Cause I don’t wanna bother you.

Yeah, I don’t wanna bother you.

NOTES:  This is a "lounge lizard" tune.  I wrote it in 2008 because I wanted a song with a saxophone track that would remind me of the the smoke-filled lounges of years past with a piano player in a polyester suit and a lot of lost souls drinking strong hard liquor.  My thanks to Otis Mourning for the excellent sax track.
