The Edge Of Time

With the well so deep and the wall so steep I’ll never get out it seems

And your response to that plea for help from me was to swallow my last cup of dreams.

Though I’ve always done my best for you, you’ve never really done that much for me.

You left me rockin’, honey, on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

Now occasionally you might look at me but you never really see inside

Though I admire the will of Dr. Jekyll, I got a passion for Mr. Hyde.

And all the shit I hit, honey, just to get me high never really did that much for me.

It left me rockin’, lady, on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

Now I feel inept, honey, and I haven’t slept in a couple of days or more.

From the very first time that you crossed my mind I had a feeling that we met somewhere, sometime before.

It was long ago and far away.  I held you oh so close to me

And we were rockin’, baby, on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

But life behaves kinda like the endless waves that wear on the sands of time.

If I could share your soul, lady, it wouldn’t feel so cold and I could wrap your heart in mine

And though you’ve got to be alone inside you just can’t share yourself with me.

You’re just rockin’, mama, on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

So if you ever feel used and you’re a little confused and there’s nothing left inside

Like nobody cares and you just don’t dare to test the strength of your pride

Close your eyes and dream of life in an unrelated galaxy

That’s just rockin’, lady, on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

Then sit for a while and paint on your smile and try to understand why

All those years are gone and your still not home and then wipe those tears from your eyes

And pull up the mask that you’re gonna hide behind to cover those years of tragedy

Spent rockin’, lady, on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

You’re my lady of light in a desperate night but your price is something I lack.

What I already owe, at a nickel a throw, would take forever to pay you back.

Well I’d say that you did a pretty good job of makin’ one Hell of a mess outta me.

You left me rockin’ on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

You got a special soul that feeds on gold but you’re afraid to take any chances.

Your choreography, ah honey, it amazes me.  You’ve memorized all your dances.

And though I’ve always been in love with you, you’ve never really been in love with me.

We’re just  rockin’ on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

So as time goes by and it sharpens your eye and you realize why we’re hear

And you grow less blind and you change your mind, don’t call my number dear.

If I could never be the man for you then you could never really be the woman for me.

We’re just rockin’, lady, on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

Just rockin’on The Edge of Time right between the Devil and the deep blue sea.
