Life Is Just A Song
I can’t feel the sunshine in the morning.
An’ I don’t see the bluebird in the sky.
I can’t hear the robin sing in spring time
‘Cause I don’t see no starlight in your eyes.
Do you ever think of people that you haven’t seen in years
And do you try to picture what they look like when they’re lonely,
Admit the soft and subtle voices of the night wind to your ears
And then realize this life is not a one and only?
Life Is Just a Song. You can sing along.
It ain’t all right, it ain’t all wrong, and it ain’t that long.
And it seems that the good they spend so little time among us.
They smile their smile and they weep for the way things are.
They can make you laugh and they can make you cry and they can love you
And their leavin’ marks your heart with a heavy scar.
But don’t miss the beauty of the sunrise early in the morning
For fear of facing the pain of another day.
That highway it just don’t end at the crest of the mountain
And if you feel like leavin’ I’ll be the one to stay.
But come on little darlin’ say you love me
And that you’ll stay with me for a little while if you can.
I could help you build your world around and above me.
Just don’t let me be your used to, second man.
Can you feel the knot that ties you to the silver chord?
Can you hear the notes that sound for all eternity?
Can you taste the flowing essence of the living tree?
Can you see the image dancing now out in front of me?
Have you ever blinded darkness with a stroke of grace?
An’ have you ever stacked the deck and drawn the losin’ hand?
Do you wonder if this narrow road will ever end?
And do you still believe that somewhere there’s a promised land?
I believe Life Is Just a Song. You can sing along.
It ain’t all right. It ain’t all wrong. It ain’t that long.
It ain’t all right an’ it ain’t all wrong an’ it ain’t that long.

NOTES: I wrote this tune in 1972. It's about relationships, with others and with life.
