Powder Blue
I live on a distant plane where images of crystal rain
Reveal to me why the infants cry and where the flowers go to die.
Trapped inside reality, tossed on life's relentless sea,
I saw in the morning's sparkling dew your dancing eyes of Powder Blue.
Ringed by the god's of iron and steel, my shoulders pressed against the wheel,
I dance to all the songs they play and I worship all their god's of clay.
I've painted all your thoughtless dreams. I smiled calmly through the screams
But I never let the madness through. I saw only Powder blue.
I walked alone on burning sands with empty visions in my hands.
I never spoke to shallow men whose hollow faces mask their sin.
I dance to the tunes you cannot hear, reflected only in that mirror
That glows a pale, haunting hue, the looking glass of Powder Blue.
If only I could step inside I would pull down the shade and safely hide
And I'd lock the bitter world away and hold the waves of time at bay
And rest at last on beauty's chest and calm the storms within my breast
And I'd tell to you all the tales I knew lay just beyond the Powder Blue.
But then I turn and I close the door and I face the real world once more
Where fantasy is ever crushed and hope's soft voice is harshly hushed.
Surrealistic visions dance and tempt me now with circumstance
Yet nothing else to me seems true but what I see in Powder Blue.
So standing here I will just mark the time 'til once again my dreams are mine
And silently I shed this shell and leave the dust of Earthly Hell.
But should one wish be granted me I will wish for all eternity
To stand there face to face with you under waves of Powder Blue.
Yeh, to stand there face to face with you lost in waves of Powder Blue.

NOTES: I wrote this song for my dear friend Gerilee's 19th birthday. It remains one of my favorites. To me, Powder Blue is a place where I can go for a brief respite from reality.
