Remembering Jane

You say you’re a friend of mine.

You hug and kiss me when we meet.

But when I’m down you’re never around

To help me get back on my feet.

When I hear you talkin’ behind my back

I say, “Hey, Could you be a little more discrete?”

An’ you say, “Oh, but there’s really nothing I can do.”

An’ I say, “Yeh, well, f*ck you”.

You told me that you had my back

But I found out you lied.

When you left me there in Washington Square

My hands and feet were tied.

I was standing at the altar

With Babylon, my bride.

And you said, “Oh, there’s really nothin’ I can do.”

An’ I said, “Yeh, well, f*ck you.”

I trusted you.  I thought you were my friend.

I believed in you.  I won’t do that again.

I cared for you.  I could not have loved you more.

I shot you dead with a blue steel 44.

We drove down to New Mexico

Where visions are bought and sold.

You went in to bargain for some medicine

While I waited outside in the cold.

You told me that you tried but there was nothing you could buy.

I said, “Hey, be a little more bold.”

And you said, “Oh, but there was really nothin’ I could do.”

An’ I said, “Yeh, well, f*ck you.”

We rode the train to Soho

To buy a powdered dream.

We found Darla there in her easy chair,

Swinging from a silver beam.

We watched the carnival clown cut her down.

I can still hear her scream.

And you said, “Oh, there was really nothing we could do.”

An’ I said, “Yeh, well, f*ck you.”

I trusted you.  I thought you were my friend.

I believed in you.  I won’t do that again.

I cared for you.  I could not have loved you more.

I shot you dead with a blue steel 44.

We stumble through time on a broken line.

We hear voices in our head.

But when we’re back down on the cold, hard ground

We can’t remember what they said.

With tears in our eyes we realize

Most of our dreams are dead.

And you say, “But there’s really nothing we can do.”

An’ I say, “Yeh, well, f*ck you.  F*ck you.”

NOTES:  This was written as a punk metal tune.  Jane was a siren and a wonderful free spirit with a few nasty habits.   We are all fortunate that she is no longer with us.  Actually, I'm not certain that's true.  I only know that she's deceased.
