Toon Town

Like the pot-bellied man with the yellow-orange hair

You image yourself to be a millionaire

But hey, hey, it don’t work that way.

Hey hey, it don’t work that way

You drive a rag top Beemer cost 84 grand

But you’re livin’ in a hole in La La Land.

Too sad.  How did it get so bad.

That‘s too sad.  How did it get so bad.

You got a room full of lawyers to write you briefs

But you drink champagne with Indian chiefs.

It’s you they’re lookin’ through.

Yeh, it’s you they’re lookin’ through.

Come on down.  Spend a little time in Toon Town.

Come on down.  You can hang around in Toon Town.

You’re into macrobiotics and herbal tea.

Everything you swallow is sodium free.

You like a sweet mint jam on a leg of lamb.

You like sweet mint jam on your leg of lamb.

You spend Wednesday morning on a doctor’s couch.

He says “Oedipus” and you say “Ouch”.

Ooh wee, what misery.

Ooh wee, what misery.

You got pearl white teeth and a perfect chin.

You got full red lips and smooth brown skin.

My, my, what money can’t buy.

My, my, what money can’t buy.

Come on down.  Spend a little time in Toon Town.

Come on down.  You can hang around in Toon Town.

You’re a step too slow and you’re a little too tame.

You’re livin’ your life like a video game.

Don’t let the bad guys win.  Don’t let the demons in.

Don’t let the bad guys win.  Don’t let the demons in.

You gave up pot and crack cocaine

For Jenny Craig and Jack La Lainne.

You’ll live ten more years bored to tears.

You’ll live ten more years bored to tears.

You say you only dine with the crowd that’s in.

Doc Martin is your OBGYN.

Ain’t you great.  What a fashion plate.

Hey, ain’t you great.  What a fashion plate.

Come on down.  Spend a little time in Toon Town.

Come on down.  You can hang around in Toon Town.

You danced while the fiddler played his tune

About the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon

And they say it’s come time to pay.

They say it’s come time to pay.

You had your last affair back in ‘93

But you locked that door and you lost the key.

Oh well, dead men can’t tell.

Oh well, dead men can’t tell.

Now you lie to your brother and you steal from your friend

And you cheat on your partner and in the end

Oh no, no place to go.

Oh no, no place to go.

Come on down.  Spend a little time in Toon Town.

Come on down.  You can hang around in Toon Town.

NOTES:  I wrote this song in 1996 at a time when I found it necessary to make a significant change in my working-world "career".  Toon Town is where Roger Rabbit and the rest of the toons live and it is also an excellent place to recommend to anyone who is already living in a fantasy world but doesn't appear to be aware of it.
